The Austrian Foreign Minister says he is against the humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg stated that he was against a humanitarian ceasefire to stop Israeli attacks on Gaza, and said that Hamas could recover in such a situation.

Speaking before the Foreign Policy Committee of the Austrian National Assembly, Schallenberg defended Austria’s vote to reject the draft resolution at the UN General Assembly on October 27, which called for an “immediate, permanent and permanent humanitarian and ceasefire ceasefire.” hostilities in Gaza.

Schallenberg said that “the right of Israel and Hamas to self-defense were not mentioned” in the draft resolution in question, and that it was not possible for them to vote yes on this draft law.

Noting that he is against a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, Schallenberg suggested that Hamas could regroup in such a situation.

Schallenberg stated that he welcomed the “humanitarian truces” that allowed the release of hostages held by Hamas and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, which he claimed had already been implemented.

Schallenberg indicated that his country would provide financial support to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and reiterated that lasting peace in the region is possible through the two-state solution.
