Island/UMe announce the release of the band’s historic third album That Cranberry ‘Faithful gone’ in a special deluxe edition. The band’s most successful record in the US market will be available on vinyl and CD from October 13, 2023. Originally released on April 30, 1996, this reissue has the original album remastered by John Dent at Metropolis Studios in London.
“I haven’t heard these songs for a long time, but over the past year I spent many days listening to them carefully,” the drummer recalls. Fergal Lawler. After the tragic death of singer Dolores O’Riordan in 2018, her memories of this record remain bittersweet. “As hard as it was to hear Dolores’ voice, it brought back many fond memories.. I was shocked at how powerful they sounded and the intense emotions I experienced while listening.”
“When we were touring for our second album, No Need to Argue, we started talking about doing the next album,” Lawler recalls. “We talked to Island Records about choosing a new producer and they suggested Tim Palmer, who worked with Tears for Fears. So we decided to record some new songs with him. Having a few free days in Paris, we recorded when you’re gone
, Free to decide AND Just Shots John Lennon. Tim was a great guy and the records sounded great, but we felt he was a bit similar in style to Stephen Street (who had produced the band’s previous two albums) and we wanted to try something different. We toured a lot and wanted more live sound.”The band then chose Bruce Fairbairn, known for his work with hard rock bands such as Aerosmith, AC/DC and Van Halen. “After the tour ended, we took a short break and met with Bruce and his brilliant sound engineer Mike Plotnikov at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin. It was a completely different experience for us and for Bruce, he was used to working with heavy rock bands. and we’ve worked with Steven (Street) before, but it worked out very well. Bruce and Mike managed to capture the incredible live sound we were looking for at the time, especially on songs like The rescue, Hollywood And electric blue. But they also did a fantastic job on songs like when you’re gone, rebels AND Bosnia“.
The 2LP and 3CD versions contain numerous tracks and bonus material including three unreleased demos recorded with Tim Palmer in Paris. and an essay by the band’s archivist, Eoen Devereux, about the making of the album, based on feedback from other members and archival material, including an interview with Dolores.
