The Dogecoin Foundation was created with a “new approach” to accelerate the development of Dogecoin. The foundation’s advisers include Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Jared Birchall, CEO of Tesla, head of Elon Musk’s family office.
The Dogecoin Foundation has been relaunched
The Dogecoin Foundation was re-established, “with a new focus on supporting the Dogecoin ecosystem, the community, and promoting the future of the Dogecoin blockchain,” the foundation announced Monday. After being inactive for many years, the foundation tweeted Monday: Guess who’s back!
Noting that it is “not here to ‘take control’ over the Dogecoin Core Wallet project,” the foundation explained:
We are here to accelerate our development efforts by supporting current Dogecoin Core and future Dogecoin developers to work full time through sponsorship, and we welcome new contributors in hopes of helping with the project.
The Dogecoin Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2014 by members of the Dogecoin team to “Provide support for the development and promotion of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.” The organization is also responsible for protecting the Dogecoin trademark “to prevent abuse and fraud” and developing a “Roadmap and guidance on the future of Dogecoin”.
The foundation said it “has the Dogecoin logo and the Dogecoin logo and maintains them for the community.”
The foundation’s website has four consultants: Jared Birchall, Max Keller, Shibetoshi Nakamoto (Billy), and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
Birchall, a former Morgan Stanley CEO, is a close associate of Tesla CEO Eles Musk. He is the managing director of Musk’s family office, Excession. Buterin had previously spoken of a possible collaboration between Dogecoin and Ethereum. “If we can have a secure Doge-Ethereum bridge. That would be amazing, ”he said in June. The other consultants are Dogecoin Core developer Max Keller and Dogecoin co-author Billy Markus (aka Shibetoshi Nakamoto).
The foundation noted that in the coming weeks, “it will announce new projects that will complement its current Core portfolio to provide faster integration and easier APIs for financial, social and charitable projects looking to use Dogecoint.”
