The fan-made side-scroller Tomb Raider 2 is a brilliant tribute to a brilliant game.

A seasoned Tomb Raider fan has reimagined the second game in the series as a 3D side-scroller.

In this side-scrolling adventure, created by Delka, who is also working on the Legends of Tomb Raider demake, Lara travels through Venice, the Great Wall of China and, of course, the Croft Estate in search of the Xi’an Dagger. However, this time she can only travel forward and backward.

It’s a pretty incredible getaway that clearly has a lot of love put into it. As I said in the title, this is a brilliant tribute to a brilliant game.

Delca stays true to the settings, sounds and overall feel of the original, but from a completely new perspective. I can totally imagine playing it on my old GameBoy Color or similar, and seeing Lara navigate the obstacle course gives me all those wonderful nostalgic feelings for times well spent in my youth (because, yeah, I often heroically running back to Croft Manor to practice somersaults, jumps and leaps when the real-life levels got too scary. Those tigers could be evil!).

You can see for yourself in the video below. Additionally, you can check out Delca’s other Tomb Raider inspired projects here.

Needless to say, the above Delca video has further whetted my appetite for the upcoming Tomb Raider 1, 2, and 3 remasters for Switch.

These three games are due out next year on Lara’s birthday, February 14th. This release will feature authentic visual updates for each of Lara’s first few games. In addition, it will include all DLC and secret levels.

Next year will also see the launch of Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime, in which Hayley Atwell (better known as Peggy Carter in numerous Marvel projects) will play Lara Croft. You can watch the teaser for the series in the first video attached above.
