The live-action feature film “Cruella”, starring Emma Stone, will be released in late May, and Disney unveiled its first trailer on Wednesday.
Stone embodies a Cruella de Vil, the negative character from “101 Dalmatians”, in the punk-rock version.
The action takes place in the 1970s and focuses on her life before terrorizing the London puppy, as portrayed in the 1961 animated film.
The cast includes Emma Thompson, Mark Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Jamie Demetriou, Joel Fry and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
Filmmaker Craig Gillespie (“I, Tonya”) directed “Cruella,” which is set to hit theaters. Tony McNamara wrote the latest version of the screenplay, while the first version was signed by Dana Fox.
Marc Platt, Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn produced the film, and Glenn Close, who played Cruella de Vil in the 1996 live-action feature film, was the executive producer.
Disney also revealed that the negative character and the story of his beginnings will be found in “Hello, Cruel Heart”, a novel to be released by Disney Press in April. The action in the book written by Maureen Johnson is set in 1967 and focuses on a teenager who dreams of having a career in the fashion world and who later becomes Cruella.
The film will be released on May 28.
