This is a year of dedication for Barbara Ronchi. At the age of 41 he won the Silver Ribbon for Settembre, the debut of David di Donatello, Giulia Steigerwalt, and then Rapito. Meanwhile, television audiences loved her for her character in Imma Tatarani, while one of the most watched films on Netflix is Era Ora, in which she stars opposite Edoardo Leo.
Barbara, she had to wait a while for her talent to be recognized…
“And that’s okay! For years I worked setter for someone else who had to hit, and it was a valuable school. I’m not a runner, I hope to be a marathon runner”.
If you had to name three important moments in your career, what would you name?
“When someone shines, there is always someone else who shines. I am grateful to Valeria Golino, with whom I teamed up, I am happy to have found Giulia Steigerwalt on my way and to have contributed to her beautiful beginning. More Above I thank you for meeting Marco Bellocchio on the way.”
She had met him seven years earlier…
“Yes, to make beautiful dreams: I recently graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts. Then I found her again with Rapito, in an even more complex role, this mother torn apart by pain, and yet who doesn’t want to compromise with the jailers, she doesn’t want to convert. For Rapito, I was selected with a double audition: first alone, then with Enia, the baby girl who plays Edgardo Mortara. We hit an instant chord There was an outpouring of affection. And I think that was pivotal”.
What was it like playing a Jewish woman?
“There was a long preparatory work with a mentor. We met with the Jewish communities of Bologna and Rome, we attended some of the ceremonies, we learned the prayers in Hebrew, as it would have been pronounced in 19th-century Italy, as best we could To be as close as possible to the reality of the times”.
Which actors do you like the most? Which movie do you feel inspired by?
“Among the actors of today, Greta Gerwig and Timothée Chalamet. Among the actors of tomorrow, the giant Anna Magnani and the film Bellissima, in which she moves from comedy to tragedy with incredible dexterity”.
