The John Wick spin-off titled Ballerina, starring Ana De Armas, has an official release date.

Ballerina, a spinoff of the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick franchise, has officially set its release date for the summer of 2024. Ballerina stars Ana de Armas as Rooney, a dancer previously played by Unity Phelan in Chapter 3 – Parabellum, who is determined to avenge the death of her family. The spinoff is set between the events of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, the latter recently released to rave reviews and a record opening weekend for the franchise.

With the box office success of John Wick: Chapter 4, the release date for Ballerina has been officially set. According to Deadline, the highly anticipated spinoff film starring de Armas will be released in theaters on June 7, 2024. Currently, there are other films planned with the same summer release date, such as a sequel to Karate Kid, Ishanah Shyamalan’s The Watchers and a film without title of the Marvel and Sony universe, but these could change date.

Ballerina is just one of many spinoffs expected to expand the world of assassins from the John Wick franchise. Starring de Armas, Ballerina’s cast also includes Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno in unspecified roles. The spinoff will be closely tied to the John Wick films, as it will star the eponymous assassin played by Reeves, Winston played by Ian McShane, The Director played by Anjelica Huston, and Charon, played by the late Lance Reddick.

The John Wick franchise is getting a TV spinoff, The Continental, set in the 1970s in the titular assassin’s haven and slated to premiere on Peacock this year. There is reportedly a secret John Wick movie in the works, as revealed by producer Erica Lee. The Lionsgate franchise is hoping for a John Wick: Chapter 5 and Ballerina sequel. It remains to be seen how these spinoffs fare without Reeves in the spotlight, but with de Armas, an Oscar-nominated star for action films, helming Ballerina, the spinoff could make a splash next summer.
