This Sunday the long-awaited interview of Oprah Winfrey with the Dukes of Sussex was finally broadcast on American television. Harry and Meghan Markle have taken the occasion to announce that the baby they are expecting will be a girl, but that has not been the only secret they have revealed throughout the two-hour special.

Contrary to what everyone believed, the couple did not get married on May 19, 2018, in the Chapel of Windsor Castle, but did so in secret three days before their media link. Although it is hard to believe, before committing and going through the altar Meghan did not succumb to the temptation to google her future in-laws, so she did not fully understand what her new position as a royal would entail. In fact, Sarah Ferguson – aunt of Harry and former wife of Prince Andrew – had to teach him how to properly bow at the entrance to the Royal Lodge in Windsor, just before his first meeting with Queen Elizabeth, when the former actress discovered that this was how she should greet her future husband’s grandmother.

Her sister-in-law Kate was the one who made her cry before her wedding and not the other way around, as she claimed at the time, but she eventually apologized to her by sending her a bouquet of flowers to take responsibility for her actions. Meghan has limited herself to stating that they did not have a confrontation and has been reluctant to give details about why she considers it would not be fair to the Duchess of Cambridge.

Certain members of the monarchy expressed concern about Archie’s skin tone before his birth and, more specifically, about the possibility that he was “too brown.” Neither Harry nor Meghan have wanted to give names because they know that they could damage the reputation of said people forever, but he admits that it was a very uncomfortable conversation that left him very confused. Contrary to protocol, the baby was not automatically granted the title of prince or princess or its own security device.

“The idea that our son was not safe, and also that the first colored member of this family did not have the same title as the rest of the grandchildren … The other key part of that conversation was that … when you are the grandson of the monarch, automatically Archie and our next baby would be princes or princesses. Nobody has the right to take that away from them. When I was pregnant, they said they wanted to end that tradition, but why? ” Meghan lamented.

Contrary to what many think, to this day Harry maintains a very good relationship with his grandmother despite his departure from the British monarchy, and over the last year they have spoken more than they had in the last decade.
