In the wake of Israel’s targeting of civilians in the Gaza Strip and the increase in attacks on US bases in the Middle East, especially in Iraq and Syria, the US Department of Defense took another step.
US Department of Defense spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder said in a statement that about 900 soldiers will be sent to the Middle East to “deter a broader conflict” and “enhance the protection of US bases.”
“I can confirm that they will not go to Israel,” said Rader, who did not provide details about where the soldiers would be deployed.
Ryder said that in the past week, bases in Iraq, where American soldiers are stationed, were targeted 12 times and in Syria 4 times.
