(CNN) — Pope Francis said that the pandemic of covid-19 could be a “response” of nature to climate change. In addition, he mentioned that he is overcoming his bronchitis and praying even more since his residence in the Vatican during the pandemic coronavirus.
“I am living this as a time of great uncertainty,” said Francis, a british journalist Austen Ivereigh, in an extensive interview by e-mail, published Wednesday simultaneously in the journals The Tablet and Commonweal.
The pope said that going to confession every Tuesday to ask forgiveness for his own selfishness. “I’m in charge of everything there,” he said.
Francisco said that the homeless should be put in quarantine in hotels and not in parking lots.
“A picture appeared the other day in a parking lot in Las Vegas where they [las personas sin hogar] had been quarantined. And the hotels were empty. But homeless people can’t go to a hotel,” said the pope.
“This is the time to see to the poor”, to whom society often treats as “rescued animals,” he said.
Francisco said that the pandemic is one of the “replies of the nature” to human beings who ignore the ecological crisis.
“Not we responded to the disaster partial. Who now speaks of the fires in Australia, or remember that 18 months ago a ship could cross the North Pole because the glaciers had melted? Who is now talking about the floods?”.
“I don’t know if this is the revenge of nature, but they are certainly responses of the nature”.
The pope warned against the rise of populist politicians who, according to him, are giving speeches reminiscent of Hitler in 1933, and others that focus solely on the economy.
“I am concerned about the hypocrisy of certain political figures that speak of dealing with the crisis, the problem of hunger in the world, but that as both manufactured weapons”.
“Today, I think we have to reduce our rate of production and consumption and learn to understand and contemplate the natural world,” he said.
The pope encouraged the people confined to find creative ways of being at home. “Watch out for the future that will come,” said Francisco.
