The Tom Brady vs. Bill Belichick debate can be settled with a shocking stat

As head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick is on the verge of breaking two NFL records.

Belichick has been in charge of the Patriots since 2000 and serves as the team’s general manager. He led the team to six Super Bowl championships with Tom Brady as his star quarterback.

Brady spent 20 years with the Patriots, winning three NFL MVP awards before leaving the team at the end of the 2019 season. The future Hall of Famer signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he still won another Super Bowl.

Since Brady left the Patriots, Belichick has led the team to just one playoff appearance in the past three seasons. The best finish was the Patriots making the wild card round in 2021, only to lose to the Buffalo Bills.

Now that Brady’s time in New England has ended for more than three years, the Patriots’ performance with and without the quarterback has been documented. The Patriots are 219-64 (71%) with Brady on the floor, but drop to 80-93 (-12%) without the former quarterback.

The Patriots are now 1-5 on the season after losing to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. With one more loss this season, Belichick is closing in on a rather unpopular record.

Belichick has now lost a total of 157 games in the NFL regular season, which is eight games less than the current record of 165 losses. The record is currently held by Jeff Fisher and Dan Reeves, but Belichick could join the club if he loses eight more games this season.

Belichick, on the other hand, is only 29 wins shy of the NFL’s all-time regular season record. The Miami Dolphins legend currently holds the record for regular season wins with 328, while Belichick has 299.

After the Patriots lost to the Raiders on Sunday, Belichick was asked about the struggles the team has experienced so far this season. This is the first time since Belichick took over as head coach in 2000 that he has a 1-5 record after the first six games of the season.
