U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack,pointed out U.S. Department of Agriculture “About 18 months away” Identifying vaccines against current avian influenza strains and is developing a distribution process, Reuters reported.
“It’s probably going to be about 18 months before we know for sure effective vaccine To this particular bird flu that we’re dealing with right now,” Vilsack said at a congressional hearing.
Vilsack concluded that USDA also plans to discuss poultry vaccinations with trading partners due to concerns that other countries may restrict imports of vaccinated U.S. poultry.
So far this year, the USDA has reported findingsVirus 8 commercial flocks and 14 backyard flocks, and 530,000 poultry have been affected.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 81 million poultry and waterfowl have died from the virus in 47 U.S. states since January 2022.
