There are 55 thousand pregnant women in Gaza

Pregnant women give birth under difficult conditions in the Gaza Strip, which is subject to siege and intense bombing by Israel.

5,500 will give birth next week

Al Shifa Hospital Gynecologist Dr. Fadia Malhis said: “There are 55,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip, and 5,500 of them are expected to give birth next week under difficult circumstances.”

Malhis noted that pregnant women are “at risk” on their way to the hospital, and stated that they are “exposed to medical risks” due to the lack of cleaning materials in the areas where they live.

“We are afraid”

Malhis said: “We fear that women will become infected and bleed,” stressing that there is a shortage of sterilization materials in the hospital.

They couldn’t find a place to stay

As the humanitarian crisis gradually worsens in Gaza, where Israel has continued its attacks since October 7, pregnant women are facing difficulty finding accommodation during the birth process.

Silva Zein Al-Din spoke about the difficulties her pregnant sister faced during the birth process at Al-Shifa Hospital.

“We were able to reach Al-Shifa Hospital with great difficulties. There was no vehicle and the Israeli bombing was continuing,” said Silva Zein Al-Din, adding that they were unable to find accommodation in the hospital for her sister, who had given birth to her baby.

In Al-Shifa Hospital, hundreds of families have been spending the night in the hospital’s corridors for weeks under difficult conditions. (aa)
