There are only murders in the building: all Easter eggs are dedicated to Meryl Streep in episode 5 | TV

In episode 5 Only murders in the building we see Loretta’s apartment, played by Meryl Streep, full of easter eggs dedicated to her career as an actress.

Production designer Rich Murray revealed to Variety a series of Easter eggs hidden in the apartment linked to the actress’s vast and varied career.

“Suffragettes” – 2015

The framed kitchen towel is a tribute to the 2015 film Suffragette, in which Streep played British political activist Emmeline Pankhurst.

Kramer vs. Kramer – 1979

Tribute to Kramer vs. Kramer” is on the door of Loretta’s refrigerator.

Murray commented:

He faithfully mimics the bulletin board above his son Billy Kramer’s bed in the film. And there’s a Christmas card from his character Billy. We then recreated this map and hung images around it.

“Julie and Julia” – 2009

The tulips on Loretta’s desk are an Easter egg from the 2009 film Julie & Julia starring Streep and Stanley Tucci.

“My Africa” - 1985

As a tribute to the Strip’s heroine Karen Blixen, in the 1985 film Out of Africa, Murray upholstered the ottoman with Kenyan coffee-patterned burlap. This is because his character lived on a coffee plantation.

The Devil Wears Prada – 2006

Of course, Murray had to pay homage to the iconic Streep character in The Devil Wears Prada. There is indeed a movie logo on the edges of the book series in the library.
