(CNN) — Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to new charges brought against him by special counsel Jack Smith in an investigation into his handling of classified documents while at the White House, through a judicial statement on Friday.
It was the former president’s second plea of innocence in 24 hours after appearing Thursday on another special counsel’s investigation into the annulment of the 2020 presidential election.

Last week, Smith charged Trump, who already faces 37 criminal charges in the classified documents case, with one count of willful concealment of national defense information and two counts of obstruction of justice. He also brought new charges against Walter Nota, an adviser to the former president, and added Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos de Oliveira to the case.
Trump and Nota pleaded not guilty to initial charges earlier this summer.
In the new statement, Trump told the court that he will not appear in person to accept the new indictment, which is scheduled to appear before a U.S. magistrate judge in Fort Pierce, Florida, on Aug. 10.
The other two defendants, de Oliveira and Nota, did not indicate in court documents their plans to appear in court.
