The risk of coronavirus persists in our communities, which is why authorities are urging us not to let our guard down.

With the number of hospitalizations and reported cases increasing this summer, Governor Kathy Hochul announced new measures to protect people from COVID-19 in New York State amid the emergence of a new variant of the coronavirus, BA.2.86.

“While New Yorkers may want to end COVID-19, COVID-19 is not over,” the governor said.

Data from the past 7 days shows an average of 723 coronavirus cases per day and we have discussed these numbers with the community accurately.

Carlos Tito believes the risk of dying from the coronavirus remains.

“For people with high-risk diseases, people with asthma or bronchitis, there’s still a risk,” he said.

“While the variant has not yet been identified among local residents, it is almost certainly spreading,” said Dr. Ashwin Vasan, New York City’s health commissioner.

BA.2.86 is highly variable, but there is no indication that it causes more serious damage to health, and experts say current treatments and tests, as well as vaccines and boosters, should provide protection.

Jonathan Nazariego focuses precisely on the new variants that have emerged:

“It’s an underlying disease that hasn’t gone away, and there are a lot of doubts, a lot of variants.”

But he knows we’re a little looser in nursing.

“Including myself, sometimes I come home in a rush, I don’t wear a mask, I don’t take care of myself, I don’t protect myself, I guess we have to call it self-care too,” explained the resident.

Remember that timely vaccinations and boosters as well as mask-wearing measures, testing and staying home when sick are still the best ways to prevent Covid-19, and newer vaccines are expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks to strengthen the fight against Covid-19 19 defenses,
