Margot Robbie auditioned for Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film. The wolf of Wall Street, if selected, she will star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. She acted out a scene with an actor, during which she impromptu slapped the actor. This surprised both Scorsese and DiCaprio, and the move solidified her position as the film’s female lead. Speaking about the slap, Robbie told Harper’s Bazaar:
“In my mind, I was thinking, ‘You literally have 30 seconds left in this room, and unless you do something impressive, nothing will ever come of it.’ This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, just take it.” And so I start yelling at him, and he yells back at me. And he’s really scary. I can barely keep up. And he ends with the words: “You should be happy to have a husband like me.” Now come here and kiss me.
So I get really close to his face and then I say, “Maybe I should kiss him.” When else will I have the opportunity to kiss Leo DiCaprio? But another part of my brain clicks and I just go, “Ugh!” I hit him in the face. And then I shout: “Fuck you!” And this is not in the script at all. There was deathly silence in the room, and I froze.
Her improvisation changed her life as the film became her breakthrough and everyone in the industry and the audience started noticing her and praising her. She gained considerable fame and reputation and has since become one of the most interesting and compelling actresses on screen.
