(CNN) — The number of new cases of coronavirus it is changing rapidly. A tracking map in real time shows us how fast.
The map of Center of Science and Systems Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University follows the cases of coronavirus all over the world.
The tool collects data from the Centers for Control and Prevention of Diseases of the U.S. (CDC, for its acronym in English), the World Health organizationthe Center European for the Prevention and Control of Diseases, the Chinese Center for Control and Prevention of Diseases (CCDC) and the chinese website DXY, which aggregates data from the National Commission of Health of China and the CCDC. The results provide a global overview of the cases of coronavirus in real-time.
The interactive map indicates the regions where patients have been diagnosed with coronavirus: more cases in a region, the higher the point on the map.
The map also tracks deaths, in total and by city.
Lauren Gardner, director of the Center for Science and Engineering Systems and professor of civil engineering at Johns Hopkins, said in early February that the map is not only a resource for the public: health officials can download the data, which will serve for research on the coronavirus in the future.
“We create this control panel because we believe that it is important that the public understand the situation of the outbreak as it develops with sources of data transparent,” he said. “For the research community, these data will be most valuable as we continue to recopilándolos with the time”.
The map also puts the outbreak in perspective, with thousands of confirmed cases in mainland China and in other parts of the world.
