Thom Browne launches haute couture with surrealistic fairy-tale show vogue italy

Paris, Palais Garnier: Thom Browne debuts in haute couture in Paris. And of course it is unrealistic.

In each show, Thom Browne presents a true surrealist show. After giving life to his version of the Cinderella fairy tale on the occasion of the Spring Summer 2023 fashion show last October 2022, on the 20th anniversary of the founding of his fashion house, the American designer returned to Paris to present his first haute couture show, in the luxurious setting of the Palais Garnier.

The show, staged on Monday July 3 during the Parisian haute couture week dedicated to autumn-winter 2023-2024, marked not only the debut of Thom Browne in haute couture, but also his return to Ville Lumiere, which the designer had left last February in New York to present his autumn-winter 2023-2024 pret-a-porter collection. For such an important event, a precise dress code was established for front-row spectators: in fact spectators were invited to wear grey, Thom Browne’s distinctive colour. A sign most respected: Global Director of the trendFor example, Anna Wintour, K-pop star Karina, rapper Cardi B, actress Diane Keaton and director Baz Luhrmann have based their looks on the color, in some cases off topic (see Keaton’s straw hat and Cardi B’s elaborate gold hat).

Instead of the red chairs of the Palais Garnier, the audience was seated on the theater’s famous inclined platform in Paris, from where, in a true reversal of perspective, they watched as the curtain slowly rose over the stalls, containing two thousand mannequins in distinctive Thom Browne gray flannel suits, seated on chairs normally reserved for the public.
