Three days after NASCAR-inspired release, Michael Jordan’s $5.2 billion brand celebrates 30th anniversary with $210 retro

With so much basketball legend surrounding Michael Jordan, it’s not uncommon to see tributes to his iconic moments. Especially when his brand has complete authority over such tributes. Whether it’s his legendary moments with the Chicago Bulls or a special retro piece, there’s a Michael Jordan element in every sneaker. But the latest tribute, a reimagining of a time long ago, may be one of the best yet.

After all, it takes you back to the old school, to a time before Jordan took the league by storm.

Michael Jordan – before he became famous

While one would think that the controversial GOAT would enter the league with unprecedented hype, surprisingly that’s not the case. Although Jordan was a great athlete in college, he was the third overall pick in his draft class. Furthermore, this choice is more ideal than surprising.

Although Jordan led his alma mater to an NCAA championship, he was still viewed as a contributor rather than a leader. However, this contest winner is truly iconic and calls himself ““Turning Point” throughout his career. Jordan Brand hopes to bring this history to the forefront with its latest release.

While black/red will always be iconic, Jordan’s powder blue from his days at North Carolina is not far behind. Over the years, Jordan Brand has capitalized on Mike’s popularity in college. Instead of focusing on his tenure with teams like the Washington Wizards, Jordan’s career starter is often recognized.

The highlight of this shoe is its work boot-like silhouette. Moving forward, a Powder Blue midsole beautifully contrasts with the White leather upper. Jumpan logos and 23 appear on the sole and heel respectively, while Black accents on the tongue and insole complete the look.

The sneaker releases on March 23, 2024, for $210, and is the brand’s second “unique” colorway in recent years.

Michael Jordan pays tribute to NASCAR

Jordan’s association with NASCAR has been a longstanding tradition of incorporating iconic colors into his car’s paint schemes. But while previous iterations have seen the brand’s signature paint scheme seen on the Toyota 45, the story is different this time around.

While early plans were to showcase classic Jordan models, this time around, a new paint scheme is in the works to promote a collaboration with J Balvin. Available later this month in a “Medellin Sunset” colorway, the shoe features a colorful gradient pattern on the back. This is Tyler Reddick’s second major brand-related responsibility, following his endorsement deal with Luka Doncic.
