Serena Williams’ husband reacts as NCAA women’s basketball ratings surpass NBA ratings. The game between the LSU Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks beat the NBA in ratings to become Thursday night’s most-watched sports event.
The Reddit co-founder was reacting to a tweet claiming that an NCAA women’s basketball game between the LSU Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks had 155 Thousands of viewers watched. By comparison, the NBA game between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat had 1.38 million viewers.
Ohanian gave a cheeky reaction to the news, saying she had been talking about the potential of women’s sport.
“I told you so,” Ohanian wrote in response to the ratings data.
The Reddit co-founder has been a supporter of the women’s movement. From investing $100 million in NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) team Angel City to wearing jackets that say “Invest in Women’s Sports.” He also sent a strong message when news broke that the women’s final at the U.S. Open had a larger audience than the men’s.

In an interview with Bloomberg News, Alexis Ohanian, husband of Serena Williams, laid out why women’s sports are underinvested.
He doesn’t mince words, blaming “low expectations” as the main reason for underinvestment. The owner of Angel City Football Club says underinvestment comes down to poor business decisions and not just sexism and racism.
“I mean, it’s the curse of low expectations. When we look back at the legacy of underinvestment in the past, call it 50 years, it’s not just a legacy of sexism and racism, it is. It’s going to be a legacy Gross business incompetence,” Ohanian said.
Ohanian also said it was important to build a loyal fan base for women’s sports around the world and raise the bar for brand partnerships.
“You’ve built a rabid, tenacious fan base around the world. You continue to raise the bar for brand partnerships. You continue to demonstrate value,” Ohanian added.
The Reddit co-founder also added that female sports fans often purchase brands partnered with clubs, which he believes is where the real value lies.
