NFL star Tom Brady, NBA player Jayson Tatum and MLB’s Aaron Judge teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to give back to nine children.
Three athletes gave nine children with serious medical conditions the chance to play catch or shoot with their heroes.
“I’m speechless. That’s what it’s all about, you know. You know, we play this game for a lot of different reasons, but to have the opportunity to inspire some young people and spend time with some kids is pretty special,” Judge told Good Morning America”.
Brady remembers what it was like to meet professional athletes as a kid.
“They’re really excited and it’s fun,” Brady said. “Much like when I was their age. I used to be a bat boy for the San Francisco Giants and I was sitting on the bench before the game and I literally didn’t say anything. My dad was like, ‘Say something!’ “I was like, you know, say nothing. So sometimes you get in there and some kids, you know, come in and they’re ready to go, and other kids, they just need a little time to warm up.”
For a special kid, five high fives and a hug were all Brady needed to achieve all of his dreams.
“Francis wanted a hug and a high-five, which was the first thing we did when he walked in the door,” Brady said.
Francis added that the best part of his day was the hugs and high-fives and “him (Brady) signing my football and two jerseys.”
“Some of these young kids are going through a lot and their families are supporting them,” Brady explained. “They try to bring some joy and happiness into their lives when they go through these difficult times. For the rest of my life, I want to give back to people who have their own dreams and desires, and I want to see people realize what they have in life What you want to achieve.”
Brady shared special moments with his children on his social media. Brady wrote: “Thank you @makeawishamerica and @fanatics for hosting such a wonderful event filled with happiness and joy yesterday. These kids are true heroes and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to spend time with them and their families.”
“PS: There are some real receivers on the field…definitely better than me,” Brady added.
