NFL royalty has arrived in Australia, with Tom Brady arriving in Melbourne on Saturday and an Australian football star saying his global influence is ‘on par with Jordan’
Brady is a man who needs no introduction no matter which country he sets foot in, even though he plays an entirely American sport with no international competition.
Brady, who finally ends his career in 2023, is a seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, six with the New England Patriots, 11 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and five Won Super Bowl MVP for the first time.
He is in Australia or taking part in three exclusive sit-down “Tom Brady Nights” events in Melbourne and Brisbane, the first of which will be held at the Palladium at Crown on Saturday night.
Brady flew directly from the United States on a private jet less than 24 hours after working as a strategic advisor to Delta Air Lines and hitting the gym in Vegas.
While he received a tepid reception when he arrived in Melbourne, his speaking engagement is expected to be packed with Australian NFL fans, including Collingwood stars Josh and Nick Daicos, among many other AFL players.
Former St. Kilda star and current Philadelphia Eagles punter Arryn Siposs, who will play in the 2023 Super Bowl, said Brady’s global impact rivals that of NBA star Michael Jordan ), who led the Chicago Bulls to three championships in the 1990s.
“Honestly, the simplest way to describe him is probably the greatest of all time,” Sipos said.
“The accolades he’s received — seven Super Bowl championships, five MVPs, 21 seasons in the NFL — all came as a sixth-round draft pick.
“I would say he’s almost on par with Michael Jordan — wherever he goes, everybody knows who he is, and I would say Tom Brady is almost there as well.
“If not, he’s out there and, to be fair, he probably couldn’t go anywhere in the world without being recognized or people not knowing who he was.”
The fully booked “landing package,” which included second-row seats, a signed jersey and the chance to take photos with the superstar, quickly sold out for $3,999 each.
NFL fans paid $2,999 for “Legends” tickets, which included a signed football and a photo.
All of the cheapest seats (starting at $99) are sold out, as are the most affordable photo opportunities (starting at $1,299).
