Tom Brady still expected to join Raiders as minority owner

Tom Brady’s initial efforts to join the Raiders as a minority owner were blocked by the NFL, but it sounds like it’s only a matter of time before Brady and Mark Davis find a way to make it happen.

according to sports illustrated Insider Hondo Carpenter says Brady is still expected to join the Raiders ownership group. The question is more about when will it happen…

“While the NFL vetoed Brady’s earlier attempt to acquire the Las Vegas Raiders, multiple team and league sources confirmed that ‘the franchise is not dead yet’ and ‘should Brady become Russ’ Minority owners of the Vegas Raiders don’t matter to the Raiders, but when.”

The reason the league rejected Brady’s first attempt to buy into the Raiders was because Davis offered him a bargain price.

according to boston globeIn the original proposal, Brady received as much as 10% of the team for $175 million.

Sure, $175 million is a lot of money, but it’s not enough for 10% ownership in a $6.2 billion franchise. You can do some math at home and figure out what 10% of the franchise would cost at that valuation.

Looking ahead to the Raiders’ more immediate future as an organization, it will be interesting to see how much input Brady has into the team’s next head coach.

An owner willing to give away the majority of the franchise to Brady would probably also rely heavily on him for football decisions… wouldn’t you think?
