And then there’s a level of rich people where you can do both of those things and decide on a whim, “I’m going to buy a game-worn and signed Tom Brady jersey for just under $1.4 million,” which That’s the level of affluence I’m writing about today.

Now God knows if I had millions of dollars in my bank account I would end up spending a good chunk of it on turf and sea meals and the best seats in the house for Hamilton, and a lot more importantly things. It’s nothing more than a jersey worn by one of the greatest athletes in team sports history, but even so, it’s hard to imagine spending more money on an NFL jersey than Al Davis spent when he bought back the Raiders franchise Nearly ten times as much money as in 1966. You can scream about inflation if you want, but in 1966 my parents were still alive. Al Davis didn’t stop with a bag of Buffalo nickels when he bought the Raiders.
Personally, I’m a little surprised that Brady’s final Buccaneers jersey currently holds the record as the most expensive football jersey ever. It’s like finding out that Michael Jordan’s Wizards jersey sells for more than anything he wore for the Bulls or North Carolina. But hey, for all I know, a super-rich Buccaneers fan is on his way from Vegas to New York right now, enjoying a steak dinner and a Hamilton show while wearing a stupidly expensive jersey he just bought.
