Tom Brady’s Las Vegas Raiders ownership deal suffers major setback as NFL legend seeks ‘significant discount’

NFL legend Tom Brady has been told he can’t buy a stake in the Las Vegas Raiders at a bargain price.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion is trying to buy a 10% stake in the Raiders for $175 million.

The deal would value the Raiders at $1.75 billion, but Forbes valued the NFL team at $6.2 billion in August.

As a result, Brady’s attempt to become a minority owner was blocked by the NFL’s ownership committee.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay warned Brady that he was seeking an exorbitant discount from Raiders owner Mark Davis.

“We’re working hard to fix this,” Irsay told The Boston Globe.

“For Tom, the number has to be a reasonable purchase price, that’s the only thing.

“If reasonable value says 10 percent should be $525 million, then you can’t pay $175 million.”

Brady’s move to become the NFL broadcaster for Fox Sports is also believed to be a hindrance to the deal.

The next time NFL owners will have a chance to vote on the matter is in December.

In May, news broke that Brady had “reached an agreement” with Davis to join the Raiders ownership group.

“We’re excited to have Tom join the Raiders,” Davis told ESPN.

Davis has already traded with Brady for ownership of the Las Vegas Aces, who recently regained the WNBA championship.

In June, Brady opened up about his decision to buy part of the Raiders, telling the Associated Press: “I grew up in the Bay Area. My favorite team is the 49ers.

“The team across the bay is the Raiders. And, you know, they’re an iconic team in the NFL.

“When I look at a lot of people who have had an impact on the NFL over a long period of time in the most positive way, (former Raiders owner and general manager) Al Davis is one of them.

“He’s no longer with us but I heard some incredible stories.

“Then having the opportunity to be a minority owner of the Raiders is a dream come true for me.

“This is something I’m interested in doing for the rest of my life.

“This is not something I can do in a year or two.”
