Tom Brady’s TB12 store in Foxboro closes

Brady co-founded the company in 2013 with health consultant and friend Alex Guerrero.

The TB12 location on Boylston Street in Back Bay opened four years ago and closed in May. TB12 also has facilities in Las Vegas and three locations in Florida: Miami, West Palm Beach and Tampa.

Representatives for TB12 did not immediately respond to requests for comment and clarification.

“Tom and I are still in business together,” Guerrero told the Globe’s Ben Waring.

In a separate email sent to TB12 Foxborough clients on Tuesday, Joseph Koudelka, one of TB12 Body Coaches, announced the next phase of the TB12 business, “TBRx Franklin,” with the “TB” in the name now standing for “Total Body Recovery” and Not Brady’s initials.

“Today, TB12 announced the closing of its Foxborough facility. I am fortunate to be a part of the TB12 brand and recognize the impact we have made on the lives of so many of our customers by providing exceptional service, care and approach.

“I am communicating with you today to announce that with the launch of TBRx Franklin, I will be embarking on a new journey in the original TB12 approach and in doing so, intend to serve all former TB12 customers from Foxborough, Boston and remote areas.

“As I continue to work with Alex and spread our impact globally through TBRx, Total Body Recovery, TBRx Franklin will serve all of our local clients with next-generation products to optimize recovery and eliminate pain.”

According to the TBRx website, Guerrero co-founded the company with Dr. Peter Cummings.

The website contains Brady’s endorsement: “Throughout my career, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of Alex’s Total Body Recovery approach. It has been instrumental in my ability to maintain peak performance levels year after year. TBRx The benefits of this approach will undoubtedly be extended both on and off the pitch.”

Guerrero’s relationship with Brady has not been without controversy. Brady was a firm believer in Guerrero’s holistic advice, which included alternative healing substances and nutritional counseling and flexibility-focused exercises, which led to Guerrero receiving office space at Gillette Stadium as well as sideline privileges.

In 2017, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick banned Guerrero from sideline games and team charter flights and prohibited him from treating any player other than Brady on the field.

Guerrero earned a degree in traditional Chinese medicine from the late University of Los Angeles. Before working with Brady, he was sanctioned for falsely claiming to be a doctor and conducting a deceptive advertising campaign, according to government records, the Globe reported six years ago.

Brady’s belief in Guerrero’s philosophy and practices extended to the quarterback’s promotion of the Neurosafe drink marketed by Guerrero’s company in 2010 as “a drink that protects the brain from the consequences of sports-related brain trauma.” After the FTC got involved, sales of the drink were stopped and refunds issued.

Brady, 46, who played quarterback for the Patriots and Buccaneers well into his 40s before retiring before this season after a stellar performance, explained the motivation for the TB12 health and recovery model on the TB12 website: “You don’t You don’t have to be a pro athlete to feel like a pro athlete. That’s why Alex and I started TB12 in the first place. The TB12 method changes lives starting with smart choices and healthy nutritional habits.”

Brady went on to explain how flexibility and health supplements have allowed him to recover faster from NFL games.
