For many, this was an exciting continuation of the success of the Swatch x Omega Moonswatch, the bioceramic version of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. This time around, Swatch has taken on the lesser-known name Blancpain to hopefully introduce the layperson to the legendary dive watch, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. So now the question is which Swatch Group brands and designs I’ll get the reissue next time?

2. Film and music icons celebrate fine watchmaking.

Silver screen legend longtime associate of Wong Kar-wai and former Marvel supervillain Tony Leung was brought to tears as he became the first Hong Kong actor to win the Golden Lion for outstanding performance at the 80th Venice Film Festival.

Although he was unattended when he took the stage for the iconic moment, he was later spotted wearing an octagonal Bulgari Octo Finissimo watch during the press conference. Leung wasn’t the only Hong Kong icon to celebrate a major event with horology: Seiko announced a limited edition 5 Sports in honor of the film and film industry. martial arts legend Bruce Lee during the celebration of the 55th anniversary of the affordable sports collection.

Lee was not known to wear many watches, but the watch he was most often seen wearing was a vintage Seiko chronograph with a unique steel bracelet, the holes of which are most often seen on rubber racing straps of the era. The limited edition model comes in black with gold accents and has an engraved bezel containing a Jeet Kune Do maxim, which the watch brand translates as “Use neither the way nor the way; having no limitation as limitation.”

Around the world, Adam Levine has flirted with the usually taboo idea of modifying luxury watches. Maroon 5 frontman’s love for Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytonas is well known, so it was both shocking and unsurprising that he approached Artisans de Genève to rework his gold Rolex Daytona 116508.

Its modifications include neon green accents, lacy subdials, a modified rotor visible through the caseback, and—perhaps most ostentatiously—a white glow-in-the-dark bezel and dial. In total, the secondary market efforts cost the musician a tidy sum of CHF 3.552 million ($3.9 million).
