Official Conspiracy: Following the international success of “La Isla Minima”, one of the most celebrated Spanish directors, Alberto Rodríguez, presents his most personal film on the bankruptcy of society, inspired by true events. Manuel (Miguel Herrán – winner of the Goya Award – Paper House, Elite) is a young accountant who is sentenced to an exaggerated prison term of 20 years for pocketing the equivalent of 1200 Euros. With the help of his cellmate Pino (Javier Gutierrez – winner of the Silver Shell and Goya awards – La Isla Minima, Motive, Below Zero), Manuel will become the leader of a movement that will unite all prisons in the fight for freedom, and that will reform the prison law. And will change the society forever. Inside, prisoners denied rights and humanity for their sexual preferences, for being poor, for not having a job, or for their political beliefs, are serving extreme sentences in an overcrowded “model prison”. It’s 1977. Outside, in the crowded streets and squares, democracy is celebrated recently after 40 years of dictatorship, oblivious to a deeply flawed legal system.

A few years ago, Rafael Cobos and I learned some facts that help describe the profound change
Which happened in a very short time in our society. A time when everything seemed possible. A fight for equality, justice and freedom. Through its characters, the film tells the transformation of society: the lives of the inmates of Barcelona’s Model Prison (one of the most famous in Spain) will be represented. Their suffering, their hopes and how COPEL (Coordinating Committee of Prisoners in Conflict) was born: a movement that managed to spread to prisons throughout the state to improve the inhumane and deplorable conditions in which the prisoners lived at that time and where The law of law was ruled by the strongest.
The story is told through the eyes of the characters. I have always laid great emphasis on characters with well-defined temperaments and personalities that develop throughout the film as the story progresses. She will again be an important part of the work in this film. It is impossible for me to make a film without the active participation of the chosen actors. So I spend a lot of time with the actors rehearsing and exploring the limits of each character. Working this way we usually come up with results that we incorporate into character and story.
I like to prepare well before shooting. I believe that a significant part of a successful result lies in the preparation done. Many of the crew on this film are award winning professionals who have been with me over the years and with whom I feel very comfortable. I feel very fortunate to have him on board for this project. Visually I want to make a calm film, with a simple narrative approach, without artificial ornaments that distract us from the story. It should have strength and beauty at the same time. Alberto Rodriguez – Biographical Notes
Alberto Rodríguez is considered one of the best and best-known directors in Spain and on the festival circuit, and has an Andalusian stamp wherever he goes. With 7 films to his credit, he has received 114 awards (including 17 Goya Awards and a European Film Academy Award for Best Film) and 105 nominations.
