27 years after his death, Tupac Shakur will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
On June 7, the legendary American rapper, poet and actor will receive a star in the recording category during a public ceremony at 6212 Hollywood Blvd.
“Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary,” says Hollywood Walk of Fame creator Ana Martinez. “This iconic artist is making part of zeitgeist He would remain an important cultural figure for decades after his death, and for many years to come. Born in New York City but raised in California through his formative years, Shakur is revered as a West Coast legend. Tupac Shakur studied acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet at the Baltimore School for the Arts. Early in his career, the musician was known as MC New York, after which he changed his stage name to 2Pac when he joined the rap group Digital Underground.
As a solo artist, Shakur released his debut album 2Pacalypse Now in 1991 through Interscope Records. He released three more albums before the fatal shooting in Las Vegas on September 13, 1996, at the age of 25. The Walk of Fame star unveiling will be hosted by Los Angeles radio host Big Boy. Among the speakers and guests will be director Alan Hughes (author of the Hulu documentary series Dear Mother), writer Jamal Joseph, and Tupac’s sister Sekiwa “Set” Shakur. She will accept the star dedicated to her brother, who died tragically a quarter of a century ago.
The ceremony will take place at 10:30 pm Pacific Time (PT), then 19:30 pm Italian time. Tupac Shakur’s delivery of the star can be followed in streaming on YouTube, by joining the Walk of Fame’s official channel.
