Malcolm Jenkins has been retired from the NFL for two seasons, but he hasn’t stopped appearing in the public eye.
The former safety, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles, recently appeared on Fox Sports 1’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd. He was promoting his memoirs What Winners Don’t Tell You: Lessons from a Legendary Defender.
The book features a foreword by Tom Brady, whose New England Patriots were the team the Eagles defeated in Super Bowl LII. (Jenkins also defeated Peyton Manning in Super Bowl 44, making him the only player to defeat two legendary quarterbacks in that event.) He talked about the process of making the segment :
“Tom came up with a title. I was thinking, ‘Okay, who’s my favorite opponent?’ You know, when I talked about being a defender, Tom was that guy, and I didn’t realize that until he retired. How much he inspired me as a player…I played with Tom a lot. So reaching out to him, he gave me his blessing and the foreword.
“It’s special because you know, as a competitor, I’ve learned a lot from him. The combine, just watching how he prepares for some of the things he does, it’s something that’s impressed me my whole career. Just watching him as a young man, so definitely grateful for the foreword he wrote for me.”
Malcolm Jenkins was drafted by the New Orleans Saints with the 14th overall pick out of Ohio State in 2009, initially playing cornerback. As a rookie, he was third on the position depth chart behind Tracy Porter and Jabari Grier.
The Saints went 13-3 and became the first team in the league to defeat three Lombardi quarterbacks (Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, and Peyton Manning) while playing against The Indianapolis Colts won Super Bowl 44. Jenkins finished the game with five solo tackles and a pass deflection.
Jenkins was moved to safety during his sophomore season, where he finally started and became an All-Pro. He will remain in New Orleans until 2013.
In 2014, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent and was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time the following year. He won two more points, including a Super Bowl win in 2017-18 with four solo tackles and a pass deflection in the big game.
Jenkins returned to the Saints in 2020 and played two seasons before retiring in 2021.
