UEFA to invite Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nasr to Champions League: Report

Al Nasr star Ronaldo remains Champions League top scorer

Al-Nassr, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, are said to be receiving an invitation to play in the 2024-25 Champions League.

Since its inception three decades ago, the UEFA Champions League has only been participated by UEFA-affiliated clubs. In view of the club’s reputation in Europe, it is now planned to invite the Saudi Professional League team Al-Nassr to participate in next year’s event.

That’s largely thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed with the team as a free agent in December. Cristiano Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League with 140 goals.

Ronaldo, 38, is one of the greatest players in football history and continues to mature like a fine wine after a brilliant start to the season.

The Portuguese captain has made 17 appearances in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing 9 assists. Alami are four points behind champions Al Hilal after 13 games, despite boasting a league-best 13 goals and seven assists.

UEFA currently intends to invite the Saudi Arabian club for the 2024-25 season in an attempt to capitalize on Cristiano Ronaldo’s global appeal. According to Alhabi:

Al Nasr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has had an outstanding performance in the Champions League. The three-time Ballon d’Or winner has played 183 games for three different teams, scoring 140 goals and 48 assists.

The majority of Ronaldo’s goals (105 goals, 31 assists) and games (101 games) came with Real Madrid, where he won four titles. In 2008, he won the Ballon d’Or for the first time, and in the same year he also won the championship with Manchester United.

Ronaldo became the first professional player in the history of European club football to win the award five times, in addition to setting numerous records and milestones. In the Champions League final, he also became the first player to score for both winning teams.
