In New York City alone, 23,550 people died.
New York is followed by neighboring New Jersey with 15,846 dead, California with 9,441 and Massachusetts with 8,648.
Other states with large numbers of deaths are Illinois with 7,723, Pennsylvania â nia in 7224, Florida in 7157, Texas with 7,003, or Michigan with 6,467.
In terms of infections, California has 516,839, followed by Florida with 491,884, Texas with 456,277, and the fourth is New York with 416,843.
The provisional death toll has far exceeded the White House’s lowest estimates.
The American President was confident that the final number would be between 50,000 and 60,000 deaths, although he later raised the estimate to 110 deaths, a number that was also exceeded.
