At the world premiere of Dead Reckoning Part One in Rome, Italy, Vanessa Kirby asked about Ridley Scott’s Napoleon. The Parts of a Woman star answered questions from Collider’s Steve Weintraub about the Tom Cruise film, but especially about her upcoming and highly anticipated role in the Ridley Scott biopic. In Mission: Impossible 7, Vanessa Kirby praised the work of co-stars Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, and Pom Klementieff for their impact on the screen. He also appreciated Tom Cruise’s almost superhero portrayal as Ethan Hunt and the vulnerability that comes through throughout the story. Vanessa Kirby has confirmed that she will return as Alanna again in Dead Count Part 2.

What role does Vanessa Kirby play in Ridley Scott’s Napoleon?

The actress plays the role of Empress Josephine Bonaparte, the wife of the historical leader Napoleon, played in the film by Joaquin Phoenix. The actress made no secret of her enthusiasm for this major mega-ruling: it’s epic, and Joaquin is extraordinary. In fact, this is the best historical biography of Ridley. There are some incredible fights throughout the movie and amazing character development that Joaquin knows how to do. It was very nice to participate in all this, I liked it.

Vanessa Kirby also talked about Ridley Scott’s style of filming. You can do 40 or 50 takes, you can do anything, you know, play games, or it can be just one take. He will ask you so many different things and you will do them. Then Ridley shoots with maybe six cameras, and you’ll only do a couple of takes at the most, because he shoots from all angles. He says it’s like theater because you can shoot a scene and he’ll capture each image and then you can move on to the next one. So it’s almost the opposite, actually.

At 85, Ridley Scott continues to make big-budget films like Napoleon (which took decades to make), due out on Sony and Apple TV+ later this year. However, next year he will return to the screens with Gladiator 2, the sequel to his greatest success of the early 2000s.
