Venice 80: come and discover the full program

However, it is unfortunate that due to the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) actors’ strike, many Hollywood stars will not be accompanying films (both in competition and out of competition). an alliance that continues to this day.

“The impact on Mostre is ultimately modest, the only film we lost was the first film (The Pretenders by Luca Guadagnino, which was pushed back to spring 2024. A few stars are missing, but the actors are independent productions,” says artistic director Alberto Barbera .

Before getting acquainted with the official program of Venice 80, we note the preliminary opening on August 29, which will be dedicated to the great Gina Lollobrigida (disappeared in January of last year). Films participating in the competition

The first film of the competition “Venice-80”, which will be presented to the public, will be Commander Edoardo De Angelis, chosen as the new opening film: at the center is the true story of Commander Salvatore Todaro, who during the Second World War saved the lives of sailors who survived the sinking of an enemy merchant ship. Also featured in this 80th edition of the exhibition is the competition section of Orizzonti, a wonderful mix of experimentation and more or less new names. The Venice 80 program, as we told you, is really intense and has many sections (let’s not forget, for example, Biennale College and Venice Immersive dedicated to the virtual world), but we absolutely cannot ignore Venice Classics, where we also find a competition documentaries dedicated to the world of cinema.
