Venice 80: official choice.

The Venezia 80 program has been announced and will run from August 30 to September 9. Six Italian films compete for the Golden Lion announced by Artistic Director Alberto Barbera and Biennale President Roberto Cicutto.

Comandante by Edoardo de Angelis with Pierfrancesco Favino, opening film and competition at the 80th Venice Film Festival, will have its world premiere at the Lido. Other Italian titles: “Io Capitano” by Matteo Garrone; Dawn at Last by Saverio Costanzo Aeneas, the second work of Pietro Castellitto, the protagonist along with Benedetta Porcaroli; “Lubo” by Giorgio Rights; “Adagio” by Stefano Sollima with Toni Servillo and Valerio Mastandrea.

Among other titles, Woody Allen announced The Accidental Impact, Roman Polanski’s The Palace, and Liliana Cavani’s The Order of Time in the Out of Competition section.

Competing for the Golden Lion, among the 23 titles of the competition, in addition to the six Italian ones, we find “Dogman” by Luc Besson; “Maestro”, the second film by actor Bradley Cooper, dedicated to the biography of the composer Bernstein; Sofia Coppola’s long-awaited new film Priscilla, about the true story of Elvis Presley’s wife; Assassin, David Fincher’s new thriller starring Michael Fassbender; Poor Girls, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos with Emma Stone; “El Conde” by Pablo Larrain with the vampire Pinochet and the biopic “Ferrari” by Michael Mann with Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz.

Out of competition:

Among the out-of-competition, it is worth noting the choice of two series, i know your soul AND Silver and blood, the latter will be shown in full with all 12 episodes of 50 minutes each. He will also arrive at the Lido. Woody Allen with Coupe de Chance, Wes Anderson with a medium length film based on a story by Roald Dahl, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (and star cast) and even Travis Scottprotagonist of Harmony Korine’s experimental work (for A24) titled Agro Dr1ft.

Big names out of competition also Richard Linklater with Hit Man, Roman Polanski with Castle and Liliana Cavani, who will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, with Time order. Also expected is the amazing Quentin Dupier with Yesaaaaali!

Also out of competition will be the final film (produced by Netflix), Snow Society J. A. Bayona.
