The track is a departure from the dreamy minimalism of Olivia’s previous hits like “Driver’s License”.
MILAN – GRAMMY® WINNER AND THE NEW QUEEN OF WORLD MUSIC, Olivia Rodrigohas released its highly anticipated new single “vampire, The song is now available on all digital platforms and will be on all Italian radio stations from Friday 7 July.
Produced and co-written by Daniel Nigro, “Vampire” differs from the dreamy minimalism of Olivia’s previous hits such as “Driver’s License”. “Vampire” begins with piano notes and an intense atmosphere which then develops into an extravagant production with pulsating and sustained rhythms, sophisticated and luxurious. As the track picks up pace, Rodrigo once again reveals his immense talent as a singer and songwriter, this time telling the tale of a “toxic” love that ‘sucks out’ the vitality.
“I was angry about a certain situation and I went into the studio alone, sat down at the piano and the chords, the melody and the lyrics all came out on their own, almost like an outside experience” – says the twenty year old young singer-songwriter. “It’s a song about feeling confused and hurt and at first I thought it would be a piano ballad. But when Dan and I started working on it, we decided to add a drum beat to the song, changing the tempo of the song. Now that’s a song about love that’s gone you can dance to.”
The single also comes with a beautiful video clip directed by Petra Collins, who is already behind the clips for the songs “Brutal” and “Good 4 U” by the Filipino-American singer-songwriter.
A few days ago Olivia surprisingly announced her second studio album, GUTS, which will be released worldwide on September 8th. Partially written and recorded at the famed Electric Lady Studios in New York City, GUTS was conceived at Negro’s Garage Studios in Los Angeles. Although each track on the disc carries the emotional honesty that has always characterized the singer-songwriter’s storytelling, this time on the album Olivia Rodrigo expands her artistry and reveals a new musical dimension.
“When I was writing Sor, I was new to this work and heartbroken; I would sit at the piano for hours and feel overwhelmed with what I wanted to express” – Rodrigo says. “But with this record I’ve focused more on the writing aspect, which involves not taking myself too seriously at times and being more daring with my words. We experimented a lot with different methods of composition and ended up creating something that is much more rock influenced than my previous work.
