Warner won the competition for the latest collaboration between Jordan and Coogler, a pairing that has been both critically and commercially lucrative in the past. Warners saw franchise potential in the original IP created by the pair.

Filming is expected to begin in New Orleans this April.

The two have a rich and storied history, with Fruitvale Station, Creed and Black Panther all being the result of their collaboration, and this new project is based on Coogler’s original idea.

Coogler will co-write and direct the suspense film with his company Proximity Media, and Jordan will star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , the project is described as a genre film. In a new report from THR , the project is being labeled as a period thriller (possibly set in the Jim Crow-era South) and involving the undead. Some sources at THR even say it contains anime influences as well,

Insider’s Jeff Snyder previously confirmed the film’s period nature, adding that it’s also a vampire movie.
