Warner Bros. unveils Ryan Coogler’s high-profile package

exclusive: Amid stiff competition, Warner Bros. has struck a deal with writer/director/producer Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan for an untitled new film based on Coogler’s original script.

The project reunites Coogler and Jordan, who previously collaborated on creed and black panther franchise and first appeared in the critically acclaimed Fruitvale Station. It also marks the second project for Coogler and Jordan, after DeLuca and Abdi greenlit Creed III during their tenure at MGM. Coogler will produce alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian through their production company Proximity Media, with Rebecca Cho serving as executive producer.

Not much is known about the film, other than that it’s a period film and production is expected to begin in April.

Coogler is represented by WME, M88’s Charles King and attorney Jonathan Gardner. Jordan is represented by WME and Phil Sun at M88.

The film division led by Warner Bros. Discovery Channel’s DeLuca and Abdi continues to build an impressive slate of new projects, laying the groundwork for a host of filmmakers to call the studio home.Recently announced projects include Paul Greengrass’s drowningBased on the best-selling book by Paul Thomas Anderson, the new film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Regina Hall, as well as Jesse Buckley, Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s sophomore feature film stars Annette Bening, Penélope Cruz and Peter Sarsgaard. Recent deals also include a strategic partnership with Tom Cruise and an overall deal with film producer Jon Chu.
