Fury of the Gods clarifies rumors about a possible Gal Gadot deepfake used in the film for the Wonder Woman cameo. Shazam 2 continued the DC Super Hero cameo joke from the original film Shazam!. While the first film featured a headless Superman cameo, as Henry Cavill’s situation as the Man of Steel was chaotic at the time, Shazam! Fury of the Gods introduced Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. However, some are skeptical of the actress that she shot new scenes for the film.

Taking to Twitter, Sandberg dispelled any doubts, confirming that Gadot herself was present on set to avoid any comparisons between Wonder Woman’s cameo and Superman’s headless scene from the original.

According to the director, Gadot could not be present on the Atlanta set at the beginning, which is why the Wonder Woman scene had to be shot with stunt double Taylor Cahill, who was also present in the amusing “date” scene with Wonder Woman, in which the Magician projects himself on Diana’s face to warn Billy that the bad guys are after him. Both scenes performed better than Shazam!’s headless Superman cameo.

Speculation about what role Wonder Woman would play in Shazam! Fury of the Gods had been going on for some time before the film’s release, but a trailer spoiled Wonder Woman’s return. Cahill’s casting as “Fake Wonder Woman” had already been revealed, so the trailer that featured Gadot as Wonder Woman ruined the end of the joke in Shazam 2. If it hadn’t been ruined, audiences would have expected a Wonder Woman cameo like Superman’s scene in Shazam! and then he’d be surprised when Gadot appeared as Diana Prince.

Wonder Woman’s cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods was better than the first movie’s Superman scene and it felt like the movie knew it too. The reason is Wonder Woman’s dual role in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. While Gadot’s portrayal as Wonder Woman in the DCEU may have come to an end in Shazam 2, the fact that the film allowed her a major scene as Wonder Woman, rather than just a joke, is great for fans of the character.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods featured a Wonder Woman scene that felt like an homage to Superman’s headless cameo from the first film, but ultimately made the Wizard look funny talking to Billy Batson from Wonder Woman’s body. However, Shazam! Fury of the Gods included Gadot as a vital piece of the film’s resolution, giving Wonder Woman a better fate than Superman in the series, while discussing the possibility of Shazam entering James Gunn’s DC Universe.
