LeBron James’ NBA career has been marked by his incredible performance, sporting success, and staying away from any controversy or association with the use of banned substances. However, in 2013, James was linked to the Biogenesis case, which cost major leaguer Alex Rodríguez his career, when it was confirmed that he used drugs to enhance his athletic performance.
Ten years later, the details of the conspiracy involving “King James” that shook Major League Baseball are now known.
The first thing we must mention is that following the DEA investigation, LeBron was found innocent and did not use any drugs. So, what exactly brought the basketball player into this conspiracy in 2013?
The answer may look like something from a Hollywood movie, but it’s reality. Ten years ago, LeBron worked with Randy Mims, a longtime friend and business manager. At the time, it was discovered that Mims was using the substances to treat his lifelong overweight problem.
In addition to Mims, another name linking James to the Biogenesis case is David Alexander, his wife Savannah Brinson’s personal trainer. He has a business partnership with him for a natural smoothie brand.
Carlos Acevedo, a key informant in the Biogenesis investigation, named Mims and Alexander in the documents because he provided both of them with prohibited substances for personal use. The Drug Enforcement Administration subsequently investigated the content and discovered a connection to James, which led to a magnifying glass being placed on the four-time NBA champion.
The DEA investigation is complete and it’s clear. “There’s never been any indication that LeBron James did anything wrong,” a DEA member told ESPN. “The King’s” career is still clean.
