In what has to be the most beautiful collision of worlds, Chanel has unveiled an exclusive first look at the highly anticipated Bleu de Chanel promotional film starring Timothée Chalamet and directed by Martin Scorsese.

Chalamet was announced as the house’s ambassador back in May, specifically as the face of the iconic men’s fragrance. It couldn’t be more appropriate; a young French-American film star and one of the most established French fashion houses (perhaps ever). The campaign itself will release on October 16th, but below you’ll find an exclusive look at the making of it:

The campaign, shot in New York, represents a new era for Chanel. Chalamet brings a youthful spunk, and Scorsese – a film legend – knows the house all too well (he directed the original Bleu de Chanel campaign back in 2010, starring the late actor Gaspard Ulliel). “I’m a New York boy and a New York actor; he is the best director and artist in New York,” Chalamet shared.

The short film explores iconic New York scenes: subways, lofts, dimly lit bars. Described as a portrayal of “a man on a quest to find himself,” Scorsese’s work explores truth, optimism, authenticity and vulnerability. He pairs perfectly with rising star Chalamet. Bleu de Chanel is an aromatic fragrance with notes of sandalwood, citrus, labdanum, vetiver and mint. Originally created by Jacques Polge, it is now developed by in-house perfumer and Chanel creator Olivier Polge, who happens to be Jacques’ son.

“Blue de Chanel has enough conviction and energy to portray a man who refuses to be typecast. A man who ignores facades and is not afraid to show his vulnerability through his tough, disarming exterior,” Polge shared in a press release.
