The U.S. military said the United States launched strikes at dawn Wednesday on two facilities in Iraq. A U.S. Army statement said: “American Central Command forces carried out separate, precise strikes on two facilities in Iraq.”

The statement adds: “The attacks were a direct response to attacks on American and coalition forces by Iran and Iranian-backed groups.”

On Tuesday, Iraq’s Al-Sumaria channel said the Popular Mobilization Forces fired on a drone that flew over its building inside the Green Zone in central Baghdad.

The Baghdad website quoted a security source as saying: “The shots audible near Al-Khadraa are the result of the detection of a strange object, believed to be a drone, over the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces, and fired upon an existing force affiliated with the Mobilization Forces.”

He added: “The plane flying over Al-Khadra was not coordinated with official government forces and was hit by gunfire.”

Iraqi factions targeted the US base in Ain al-Asad in western Iraq on Tuesday morning in response to Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip, a statement announced.

The short statement adds that this was “in response to the crimes committed by the enemy against our people in Gaza,” stressing that this was done “with the appropriate weapon” that “hit the target directly.”

An Iraqi security source announced a missile attack on the “Ain al-Assad” base, where international coalition forces are located, west of Anbar, Iraq.

Iraq’s national news agency “NINA” reported that the base had previously been targeted by a drone and had also been exposed to mortar fire, without specifying the extent of the losses, last week and two missiles last October.

American forces stationed in Iraq and Syria have been subjected to about 61 attacks since mid-October, resulting in dozens of American soldiers being slightly injured, US military officials announced.
