“We Just Don’t Want to Rush”: Clarification Update on Arcane Season 2 Release.

After its quick renewal in November 2021, Arcane season 2 receives a clarifying update. Set in the fictional universe of Riot Games’ League of Legends, Arcane is a Netflix animated series that took several years to reach audiences. The series focuses on two sisters, Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell), who find themselves on opposite sides in a brewing conflict between wealthy Piltover and impoverished subterranean Zaun. It became the first streaming show to win Outstanding Animated Program at the Emmys and was also hailed as one of the best series of the year.

Based on the latest update on Arcane season 2 from Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent, it looks like there will be a long wait for the next chapter in the story. In an interview with Bilibilii, Laurent addressed the progress of the hit animated series. Laurent says that maintaining the high quality of the adaptation takes time. The CEO also honestly explains how there was no expectation for Arcane season 1 to become such a hit and how this affects the delay. Laurent’s quote, via WIN.gg, is as follows:

“I just watched the third episode of season 2 before my flight to China. We are working on this. It’s not ready yet. There are two reasons for this, you want quality, we don’t want to rush things, and therefore it takes time and that’s a good reason. The bad reason is that we honestly didn’t know if Arcane season 1 was going to be a hit. So we didn’t start season 2 until after that. We did not know. And so if I had known (that Arcane was going to be a hit), we could have started season 2 much earlier, but we didn’t know, so we waited a bit and now we’re paying the price.”

What to expect from Arcane season 2
Arcane season 1 concludes with a major confrontation involving Jinx, Vi, Caitlyn (Katie Leung), and Silco (Jason Spisak). In the chaos that followed, Silco was dead. Desperate, Jinx shot down the council building just as they were voting for Zaun’s independence. The finale ended right before the missile landed, and the aftermath will likely be a big focus of Arcane season 2 when it returns.

The adaptation was not only lifted by its remarkable visuals and gripping storyline, but the voice cast of Arcane also added a lot to the depth of the story with their performances. In addition to Steinfeld, Purnell, Leung and Spisak, the ensemble has also included several lead and supporting performers who could rise to prominence with a second part.

The scope of the series was vast, with Arcane’s praise also echoed by Henry Cavill. It set the record, at the time of debut, as Netflix’s highest-rated show within a week of its premiere. Given the praise from both professional critics and general audiences, it’s understandable and even preferable that there isn’t a rush to produce new episodes.
