The Pentagon has said the goal of deploying more forces now to the Middle East is deterrence.

Pentagon spokesman General Patrick Ryder added in exclusive statements to Al Arabiya: “We have targeted several areas belonging to Iranian proxies in the region to send a message to Tehran.”

General Patrick Ryder continued: “We are now focused on ensuring that Israel gets what it needs to protect its population, and we do not want to see any more civilian casualties in Gaza or on Israeli territory.”

Deepening the ground offensive

Today, Monday, Israel extended its military attack deeper into the northern Gaza Strip, as Gaza’s armed factions responded with volleys of missiles against settlements and cities in the surrounding area.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday that the army is making “smooth progress” in the Gaza Strip.

The Prime Minister said in a video distributed by his office: “The army has expanded the scope of its land entry into the Gaza Strip, and is doing so through very deliberate and strong steps and is making smooth progress, step by step ,” quoted from “Agence France-Presse.”

Furthermore, the Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Health revealed that the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital for cancer patients was severely damaged on Monday after renewed Israeli shelling.

The ministry said in a statement released by the hospital’s director general, Sobhi Skaik, that the new attack on the hospital for the second time caused “serious damage, disrupted some electromechanical systems and endangered the lives of patients and staff healthcare”.

Skeet told the Arab World News Agency in a telephone interview from Gaza early Monday morning that the hospital had been damaged by a shelling that he described as terrible, which occurred very close to it.

He stressed that 6 patients died on Sunday night because they did not receive the necessary treatment.

Previously, the Israeli army had reported that sirens had sounded in the Jerusalem area, without providing further details, while Palestinian media had reported that a “heavy salvo of missiles” had been launched from the Gaza Strip towards Jerusalem and that in the explosions had been heard in the city. Sirens sounded in other areas of Israel today, including Beersheba, the Negev, Ashdod and Ashkelon. The Al-Qassam Brigades announced that they had bombed Beersheba with a new missile salvo.

The United Nations and its medical staff have expressed fears that Israeli bombing could hit areas closest to hospitals in Gaza, where tens of thousands of Palestinians have sought refuge, along with thousands of wounded. Aid workers said the largest humanitarian aid convoy set to reach Gaza still fell far short of the Strip’s needs.

More than 20 people were killed in Israeli attacks

Al-Aqsa television announced that more than 20 people were killed in an Israeli attack on a hall in Nuseirat housing displaced people.

The death toll has increased due to continued Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip, the Gaza Ministry of Health announced. The Palestinian Health Ministry announced Monday that the death toll from Israeli raids on Gaza has risen to 8,306, including 3,457 children and 2,136 women. The Ministry of Health confirmed that the number of Palestinian deaths in the West Bank has risen to 329 people since the beginning of this year.

Ashraf Al-Qudra, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, said in a press conference that the number of people injured following Israeli attacks on Gaza had risen to 21,048. He added: “We have noticed an increase in targeting hospitals, including the Turkish Hospital and Al-Quds Hospital.”

The Palestinian Red Crescent told Al Arabiya and Al Hadath that aid arriving in the Gaza Strip met only 3% of needs, while the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that 25 hospitals in the Gaza Strip were out of service due to of Israeli bombings. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health once again called on Egypt to open the Rafah crossing, warning of a health and environmental catastrophe in the Strip.

Israel has warned residents of the northern Gaza Strip of the need to head south to prevent its military operations from expanding into the north. Not everyone heeded these warnings, as tens of thousands of people remained in the area.
