No longer for the exclusive use of celebrities, cryotherapy and new aesthetic techniques they have a strong point – the cold, and they are becoming more and more accessible to everyone. Among the most sought-after and traceable methods in beauty salons is the “cryosauna”, which promises after several sessions of only three minutes in a nitrogen cabin at extremely low temperatures: important benefits for body and mind.
Cold has always been considered an ally in the fight against skin aging, as it has a rejuvenating effect that slows down cellular activity and therefore delays skin aging. Cryotherapy, from the Greek Krios (cold), is of very distant origin. Its beneficial effects were discovered by the ancient Greeks, who exposed the body to harsh temperatures to counteract pain and inflammation. In addition, there was a real cold room in the Roman baths, frigidarium
, with pools of cold water in which you can dive or recover from the vapors of thermal waters. Very often a dedicated route was planned, which, starting from the calidarium, where there were baths with hot water, passed through the tepidarum with cool water to the frigidarium for psychophysical refreshment.Cold therapy has survived to this day, it is a real daily ritual adopted by athletes such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelo Lukaku and Marcel Jacobs for the regeneration of the body, subjected to the stress of training and competitionbut also a panacea for celebrities like Madonna, Daniel Craig Claire Ferragni who have documented their dives in ice tanks or cryosaunas on social media or streaming to keep fit and counteract stress.
Invented in 1978 in Japan thanks to the intuition of Dr. Toshima Yamuchi, who, while testing the therapeutic effect of staying in the mountains on patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, decided to subject them to the first prototype of a cryosauna. Thus, it is a personalized experience inside a cabin shaped like a shower, which can only be accessed in underwear or naked. Inside the cryosauna, freezing nitrogen is released at a temperature of -120°C to -180°C for about three minutes; an innovative technique that reduces water retention and fights cellulite and orange peel. It is thanks to very low temperatures that the skin gradually relaxes, which contributes to a weight loss of about 300 kcal per session.
