Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory viral disease that can cause a variety of symptoms.
Typical symptoms include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, muscle aches, fatigue and headache. These symptoms usually appear suddenly and range in intensity from mild to severe.
Fever is one of the most common symptoms of the flu and can be very high, often exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.
Chills and generalized or localized muscle aches are also common. Cough (which may be dry or productive) and sore throat are symptoms that often accompany the flu.
Fatigue and exhaustion are persistent symptoms that may last for weeks after other symptoms have gone away. In more severe cases, the flu can lead to complications such as pneumonia, especially in people with weakened immune systems, the elderly, or young children.
It’s important to note that flu symptoms vary from person to person and may overlap with symptoms of other respiratory illnesses, such as the common cold. If you develop flu symptoms, it is recommended to see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and receive appropriate treatment.
