Tom Holland, now the beloved Spider-Man of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, once reflected on his journey to landing the iconic role on The Graham Norton Show in 2021. feels that this is enough to make him laugh.
While appearing on The Graham Norton Show in 2021, Tom Holland took us back to those nerve-wracking days when he flew to Atlanta for multiple screen tests, each one carrying the burden of his dream. The day he landed his final audition, he had an unexpected and unforgettable encounter with a taxi driver.
The driver, although seemingly well-intentioned, was, in Holland’s opinion, “too honest.” Throughout the trip, he spoke with a young actor who was desperately trying to concentrate on rehearsing his lines. The driver, perhaps not fully realizing the significance of the moment, suddenly produced the effect of a bomb exploding.
Tom spoke about the situation and said: “When I was going to my last audition, I was driving, I was very nervous, and I had a driver – a nice guy – but too honest? And he kind of sits there. in the car and he’s chatting to me, chatting to me, chatting to me, and you know I’m a polite person, but I also want to say, “Man, please shut up, I’m trying to learn my lines.” ‘ And he looks at me in the mirror and does this thing (pretends to adjust the rearview mirror) and he’s like, “Yeah,” and he sits there really awkwardly, looking at me. And he says, “You know what a kid, I think you’ll get it. And I was like, “Really?!” Why?!” And I was glad to hear it. He says, “You know what? I guess you’ll get it because the kid I just took there? He is so beautiful. (laughter)”.
It’s not easy for our favorite Spider-Man to get his role. According to a report from Collider, the casting process for the role of Spider-Man was extensive and took five months. Holland went through eight auditions before finally landing the role of Spider-Man. However, he was eventually able to officially don the red and blue Spider-suit and received much praise for his role as Spider-Man.
Robert Downey Jr., who plays Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reportedly praised Holland’s “perfect” skills as Spider-Man. Additionally, Benedict Cumberbatch, who played Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home, called Holland’s performance “stunningly brilliant,” according to multiple sources.
