One piece of advice from Michael Jordan helped Charles Barkley make millions
In 1984, Nike was still a rising brand and did not achieve much success in the market. In the same year, Charles Barkley was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers and Michael Jordan was selected by the Chicago Bulls. Nike has its eyes on these two players and is targeting them to become their brand ambassadors. Charles Barkley was called out on an episode of the “Steam Room” podcast released by “NBA on TNT” on April 9, 2023.
In that episode, Charles Barkley revealed how Michael Jordan gave him advice when Nike approached them with trade documents. “He said, ‘Hey, man, why do you need so much money?'” Charles said. “I was like, ‘Man, what are you talking about?’ He said, ‘I looked at your contract, and you were making about three Million dollars, tell Nike you want a million and the rest you want stock options.’ I said I’d run it by my people.”
Charles Barkley also revealed how Michael’s advice helped him make so much money. In a final statement, Charles added: “This guy is the greatest basketball player of all time – let’s do this. I actually made probably 10 times as much money. And I’m still at Nike to this day.” From that point on, Michael Jordan moved on and became a billionaire. As for Barkley, Jordan’s advice also made him a millionaire.
