Doja Cat flips the script on one of Skechers’ classic designs for her premiere capsule collection, which debuts on Thursday (September 28). The sneaker is a modern yet rugged take on the classic sneaker, paying homage to the nostalgia of the 2000s.

“It’s exciting to be able to create your own shoes with Skechers,” Doja said in a statement. “To create something inspired by the iconic sneakers that my peers Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera once wore, I feel like I’m a part of history.”

As the brand’s first artist-in-residence, Doja worked closely with the Skechers design team to create the sneaker, which retails for $125 and is available in a variety of bright and neutral colorways.

The “Paint the Town Red” rhyme finishes off the sneaker by using mixed materials like premium leather with hints of patent leather and mesh, adding an eccentric touch that stays true to its style. Available in black, white, cream, olive green and lavender, the sneaker features Skechers x Doja Cat branding and features a Skechers air-cooled memory foam insole.

In addition to designing the collection, Doja put her creative stamp on the Skechers campaign. “For this campaign, I worked with Skechers to create visuals that were simplistic, art-forward, edgy… all the while exploring different elements like fire, burnt textures, and the effects of flames,” she explained.

Doja first became inspired by the Skechers collaboration when she wore a pair of the original D’Lites during her 2022 Coachella performance.
